The Just For Laughs Group's management team is currently seeking a Senior Director Legal affairs.

Senior Director Legal affairs

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the sought-after Vice-President Legal and general Counsel has diversified experience in commercial and corporate law. Experience in intellectual property law and entertainment law is an asset.

As Vice-President Legal and General Counsel, you will act in support of the day-to-day needs of the company management and its various business units. Your challenges will be varied and you will have to have a keen business sense, know how to manage effectively and prioritize, on a daily basis, a wide range of files.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Advising on various legal issues applicable to the company's activities (commercial law, entertainment law, intellectual property law, etc.)
  • Advising on various legal matters concerning the company (corporate, marketing and corporate communications, labor relations, litigation, insurance, banking agreements, compliance, etc.)
  • Write, review, comment on and negotiate different types of contracts (production contracts, artist contracts, license contracts, service contracts and strategic partnerships with customers and suppliers, etc.)
  • Act as corporate secretary of the company
  • Provide advice on the interpretation of laws and regulations applicable to the activities of the company
  • Participate in the development and implementation of various contract models and corporate policies
  • Monitor and update corporate documents, policies and other aspects of governance related to the company's activities
  • Ensure proactive monitoring of pre-litigation cases, in collaboration with the departments concerned and coordinate the various cases and disputes entrusted to external legal firms
  • Review and comment on documentation in the context of bids and calls for tenders
  • Ensure a legislative watch on new laws, regulations and industry trends that may affect the company's activities
  • Management of the team of internal lawyers of the company, and the budget of the department
  • Ensure a constructive interface and relations with the legal groups of the various shareholders of the company
  • All related tasks

 

Education and Experience:

  • Member of the Quebec Bar, Common Law an asset
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience acquired in a company or within a firm

 

Skills:

  • Perfectly bilingual (French and English), both oral and written
  • Strong communication, writing and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with changing deadlines
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities and a large volume of files at a time
  • Known for having good judgment and practical business acumen
  • Analytical mind, focused on solutions, customer service and collaboration
  • Autonomy and natural team spirit
