FAQ

The Just for Laughs Festival Toronto runs from September 22-October 1, 2022. Fans can explore all the Festival has to offer for 10 laugh-packed days including ComedyCon, the daytime series In Conversation, podcasts, cast panels and more! New this year is a free street festival which runs from September 23 to 25 at Front Street East and Berczy Park. It will feature local and international comedians, DJs, food trucks, bars, local restaurant pop ups, and art installations.

Following are answers to specific questions you may have. After you have applied, you can find out more on the Volunteer Portal. We are also available by email at [email protected].

Who is this volunteer opportunity open to?

We are looking for individuals aged 19 and older, at every level of experience. Some assignments will require specific skills but many are entry-level opportunities. Those from outside the Toronto area are welcome, however travel and accommodation are not provided.

What roles are available to Volunteers?

We are looking for greeters, scanners, ushers, general floaters, Team Leads, etc. Full details will be shared with applicants via the volunteer portal.

What is the commitment for volunteering?

The festival runs from September 22-October 1. Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of three shifts during the event, and are invited to sign up for more for a more fulsome experience.

Are there any volunteer perks?

Heck yes! In addition to the opportunity to be a part of this world class event, meeting and working alongside like-minded people, volunteers also receive a JFL Toronto t-shirt to wear on duty and volunteer accreditation for shows throughout the run.

I would love to see Trevor Noah, will my volunteer pass work for headliner shows?

The headliners are likely to sell out. It is unlikely that there will be room at these shows, however, JFL is a festival of discovery! Your pass can be used at showcase venues around the city (Rivoli, The Garrison, Comedy Bar, etc.) so you can find your next favourite comedian! Access to shows using your volunteer accreditation is subject to available capacity and standing room.

How does the volunteer pass work?

The volunteer pass grants you access to certain venues and programming, as listed on the back of the pass*. Arrive early and, as long as the show isn’t sold out, you’ll enjoy a JFL show for free. That’s right, free!

*The pass does not grant access to Meridian Hall (formerly the Sony Centre), Coca-Cola Coliseum or Scotiabank Arena.

When will I find out if I am selected?

We anticipate having room for all of you! We will review applications and start to build the team once we have completed our recruitment outreach. Applicants will be updated on next steps in the process throughout the program.

When will I receive my schedule?

We are pleased to offer self-scheduling through the interactive portal. You will have the opportunity to select the shifts of your choice based on availability at the time of scheduling. Our goal is to have the schedule locked two weeks before the festival starts.

Can I be scheduled at the same time as my spouse, friend, etc.?

Great idea! Volunteers will have the opportunity to self-schedule from available shifts. We suggest signing up at the same time to achieve this goal.

What are your COVID-19 protocols for volunteers?

The Just for Laughs Festival will continue to follow provincial mandates and guidelines.

What is the volunteer uniform?

Volunteers are provided with an official JFL t-shirt to be worn with pants or skirts, and clean shoes. Volunteers are required to wear this uniform and their accreditation while on duty unless otherwise directed.

How can I learn more?

Filling out an application doesn’t commit you to service. You can sign up to be updated on program details and JFL information while you decide if you want to participate. You are not considered a committed, confirmed volunteer until you have signed up for duty.

Have a question we haven’t answered? This document will be updated on the portal as details confirm.
