Development Coordinator

Just for Laughs (“JFL”) is seeking an experienced Development Coordinator, TV department. The Development Coordinator for Just For Laughs is a creative and collaborative thinker and producer who assists the company’s development, production, and post-production of the TV Department, reporting to the Head of TV Development.

This role is for someone who is a proactive and quick-thinking problem solver and can effectively, creatively, and tactically help bring projects from concept through to completion with an ability to juggle multiple responsibilities. This person should have experience in media, television, and comedy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in TV development, pre-production, production & post-production administration
  • Outsourcing, reviewing, & contributing to development materials, concepts, outlines, scripts, rough cuts, etc.
  • As required, assist in creative decision-making & approvals processes
  • Assist in the management of all tasks relating to JFL development business (scheduling, copywriting, editing, designing, contract tracking, expense & revenue tracking, etc.)
  • Coordinate development and pitch materials, internal sizzles, presentations, and pilots
  • Ensure department tracking documents are maintained
  • All other administrative duties as required to support the development and expansion tv team in their tasks including supporting the Head of TV Development and, if needed, the Chief Content Revenue Officer.
  • Attend shows in-person and online to scout talent and develop relationships.

Required qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Arts or a related field
  • Additional educational training in TV production/Communications an asset
  • 3+ years experience in a related position, or a combination of education & experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Movie Magic Budgeting, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Mail, Powerpoint, Keynote, Photoshop/Photo Editing Software, Canva, Adobe.
  • A strong understanding of television development and production process and working familiarity with key players in the industry including, but not limited to, agencies, management companies, studios, production companies, and networks.

Required Skills:

  • A strong understanding of all forms of storytelling including without limitation scripted, unscripted, live-action, animation, live event, short-form, and streaming.
  • Excellent sense of organization and time management;
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent relationship-building skills
  • Ability to keep calm and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and excel in a project-oriented environment
  • Tact and diplomacy when communicating with entertainment industry professionals (artists, agents, managers, etc.)
  • Team player (ability to work closely with a small team to deliver successful results)
  • Sense of humor and love of comedy
