Craig Robinson
Craig Robinson started his comedy career while in college and he has learned something every step of his career. In 1996 he won The Miller Genuine Draft Comedy Search. Right then and there he learned he was funny. Two years later he was signed by Fox to an exclusive development deal while performing at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival. This is where he learned that he had a brilliant future in comedy. Craig’s extraordinary delivery and material has not only lead to a successful stand up career but also has catapulted him into hit shows like ‘The Bernie Mac Show’ and ‘Arrested Development’. Craig is also one of the stars of ‘The Office’ and has appeared in the blockbuster comedy Knocked Up. You can also catch him this summer in the feature film “Pineapple Express” This guy may no longer be in college but he has definitely graduated to the top of class.
Williamson Playboys
The Williamson Playboys are the comic creations of Second City alumni Paul Bates and Doug Morency. Doug (ukulele) plays Cecil Jr., aged 141 years. Paul (tuba) plays his father, Rufus. Together, they form the world’s oldest living father-and-son Cajun music duo, claiming to have invented Cajun, jazz, blues, rock, rap, techno-lullaby, and every other musical genre known to man. Since first appearing at the Second City, the Playboys have become favourites in Toronto’s comedy scene, and have also played to sold-out audiences in Chicago, Montreal and Winnipeg. They have a CD of their most popular songs, and are also Canadian Comedy Award winners.
The Imponderables
The Imponderables have proven that troupes that use five syllable words in their name can still be funny. (Indeed, they are much funnier than The Unimaginables) Flare Magazine has called them "The hottest Canadian troupe since Kids in the Hall". They have been outstanding from the very beginning of their career, winning Pick of the Fringe at both the Toronto and Edmonton Fringe Festivals and then winning the Just for Laughs Comedy Award at the 2004 Montreal Fringe. By 2005 they had won Canadian Comedy Award for Best Sketch Troupe. The Imponderables (also known as Dave, Eric, Jon and Tony) have since headlined Massey Hall and have appeared on Sketch with Kevin McDonald on CBC. They combine well honed absurd characters with a manic physicality that makes them appreciated by critics and audiences alike. Go see The Imponderables, you’ll laugh and improve your vocabulary all at the same time.
The Sketchersons
The Sketchersons exploded onto the Toronto comedy scene with their hit weekly show Sunday Night Live in 2004. The cast has earned a loyal fan base and critical acclaim and are the reigning (2007) Canadian Comedy Award winners for Best Sketch Troupe. They have garnered outstanding reviews performing in Montreal, New York and Los Angeles in recent years and have parlayed their success into regular work in film and television. Currently they are in the midst of opening their own comedy theatre and exploring development options for television. This is their first appearance at the festival and they couldn't be more thrilled.
