Julio is a Brooklyn-based comedian who moved to NYC from El Salvador to study literature at the New School. In 2013, Julio was a finalist in the NBC Stand-Up for Diversity showcase, and then was named one of Comedy Central’s 2014 Comics to Watch. In 2015, Julio was honored as one of the New Faces at Just For Laughs.
Julio has developed original content for Broadway Video’s Mas Mejor network, including his series Diego + Valentina. After writing for The Chris Gethard Show and Billy on The Street, Julio went on to guest write for the 41st season of Saturday Night Live and is now an Emmy-nominated full time staff writer in his third season.
Julio’s work on SNL has received much acclaim from The New York Times, Vulture, Vanity Fair, and more. Julio has guest starred on HBO’s High Maintenance, performed stand up on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and has also both performed stand-up and appeared as a correspondent on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His first stand-up special premiered as a half hour on Comedy Central Stand Up Presents.
Last August, Julio headlined his first solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, My Favourite Shapes: By Julio Torres to rave reviews, which he will be performing at the Soho Theatre for an August 2018 run and bringing to JFL this July. Julio just wrapped shooting his pilot Mexico City: Only Good Things Happen, which he co-created and stars in with Fred Armisen and Ana Fabrega for HBO.
