JUST FOR LAUGHS OUTDOOR EVENTS: THREE WILD WEEKENDS OF FUN

Huge Stars, Participatory Parades, Music, Dance and More, so Metrobus Your Way To Us!

Montreal, June 28th – The 2011 edition of the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival presented by Videotron in association with Loto-Québec, today announced the new structure and content for its free outdoor programming, taking place this year from July 13 – 31st. The rollercoaster of fun peaks on three weekends through the end of July; each one with its own special theme and specific events. For example:

Weekend 1: The Carnaval! July 14 – July 17TH

Pinkarnaval, a ROY Creation – July 16th and 17th
Inspired by famed fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier’s exhibit at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts – From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, we present Pinkarnaval. The unique partnership between Just For Laughs, Pinkarnaval and the Museum is the inspiration for the energy, the colour and the International flavour of this parade, created by artists and citizens from the greater Montreal area (over 1600!). The parade starts Saturday July 16th at 7:30 pm, corner Sherbrooke and Crescent Street (Montreal Museum of Fine Arts), and runs down St-Catherine Street to Place des Arts.
On July 17th, an urban spectacular will be presented at Place des Festivals, revisiting Jean-Paul Gaultier’s world. To get the details of this promising show, please reserve your seat at the Pinkarnaval press conference held at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, on July 6th.

Le Couscous Comedy Show
Uncle Fofi created, produced, hosted and cooked up some great Algerian couscous for his Couscous Comedy Show. His multi-cultural Montreal guests will surprise you! Dinner and a show for a small fee. (At the Guinguette for eight shows, July 13-18th)
Plus more games, activities and family fun all weekend long (including Christopher Williams and the Rock Paper Scissors contest presented by Loto-Québec)!

Weekend 2: Street Arts! July 21 – July 24th

Street Arts. A blast of madness and grandeur in the Just For Laughs universe. The multiple shows and spectacles include:

Victor’s Follies Cabaret & Le Grand Bisou (Videotron Stage)
Our larger-than-life couple, Victor and Rose, have been together for a few years now, and they’ve let us know that their relationship is ready for a step up...but we can’t tell you exactly what yet! Our couple will seduce each other through a series of tributes to glorious musical comedies of the past at Victor’s Follies.

Le Grand Bisou was last year’s highlight for thousands of festival goers. This year, the whole creative team will unite the Street Arts’ performers to present a show dedicated to love’s great secrets.

Music and dance are the means by which our couple express their love. Everyone is invited to party, waltz and drink to the health of Rose and Victor at Victor’s Follies and Le Grand Bisou at Place des Festival from July 21 – 24th.

Bang Bang : Street Theatre
Imagine the street filled with fun, colourful, dancing, circus-type stilt-people... pretty cool, no? Trust us, this theatre is a statement in style, high energy and fun. Simply put: It’s poetry in motion.

Elliptoplume, Elastic-Gymnastic, Great Poles & The Wheel of Destiny
These amazing shows will be omni-present throughout the weekend, with their jaw-dropping aerial manoeuvres guaranteed to raise your curiosity and...make you look up!

The Great Throwdini, Knife Thrower (Loto-Québec Stage)
A Montreal first! The best knife thrower in the world! Owner of...wait for it...25 Guinness World Records! Come see the flying machetes, axes and knives. And watch your head.

Oh yeah,
And because you can’t get to the site by plane…or by car, for that matter:
Metrobus Your Way To Us!
Getting to the site by car will be a hassle, a fuss and even a massive (explicit) headache. Please, please, please, if you want to make your show on time, take public transit. Thankfully, with a valid STM fare on hand, up to five children under the age of 12 can travel with you for free on weekends – and you can also get yourself an “Unlimited Evening” pass for $4, valid from 6pm to 5am the next day – so you can laugh even longer, and all the way home.
Hell, you can even laugh last.
