Bridesmaids Director Paul Feig is Just For Laughs’ Comedy Director of the Year

The Hangover 2 Star Ken Jeong is Just For Laughs’ Breakout Comedy Star of the Year

Montreal, Wednesday, July 6, 2011– Paul Feig and Ken Jeong will be honored this year at Just For Laughs with two very prestigious awards.  Paul Feig will receive the “Comedy Director of the Year” Award and Ken Jeong will receive the “Breakout Comedy Star of the Year” Award. The two join the previously announced “Comedy Person of the Year” Award which will be handed out to Louis CK, and the “Comedy Writer of the Year” Award to Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd.  These awards will be handed out at the Just For Laughs Awards Luncheon, presented by Fonds de solidarité FTQ,on Friday, July 29 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal.
 
Multi-talented creatorandBridesmaids Director, Paul Feig, will appear at Just For Laughs’ 4th annual Comedy Conference to receive the Just For Laughs “Comedy Director of the Year” Award. Feig recently released Bridesmaids, his fourth feature as director and producer, which opened in May 2011 to rave reviews and has accumulated a domestic total of over 150 million dollars… and growing. This weekend Bridesmaidsbecame the top R-rated female comedy of all time, surpassing Sex and the City. Feig is a three-time EMMY nominated writer/director and Directors Guild Award winner, best known for creating the beloved series Freaks and Geeks and serving as director and co-executive producer of The Office.
 
Ken Jeong, known as the “scene stealer,” has quickly established himself as the go-to character actor for today’s hit comedies.  Jeong will make his return to Montreal to receive the Just For Laughs “Breakout Comedy Star of the Year” Award.  In 2008, Jeong attended the festival performing in “Apatow For Destruction” an evening of comedy curated by Judd Apatow.  Jeong most recently reprised his role of Mr. Chow in the comedy blockbuster, The Hangover 2. The much anticipated sequel has surpassed expectations, already grossing well over 500 million dollars worldwide, setting box office records for an R-rated film. Jeong can also be seen as a series regular on Community, and stars in the recently released mega-hit, Transformers 3, and will complete the trifecta when he stars in The Zookeeper (July 8).
 
In addition, Paul Feig will also take part in a Master Class, presented by the Telefilm Canada Features Comedy Lab, a CFC Film Program in collaboration with Just For Laughs. The Master Class will take place on Thursday, July 28 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal and will be filled with insight and anecdotes about the feature comedy filmmaking process.
