Comedy Conf Keeps Rolling Out the Big Announcements:
Comedy Legend Garry Shandling Will Receive the Just For Laughs’ Lifetime Achievement Award
Montreal, Tuesday, July 19, 2011– One of comedy’s treasures, not only as a comedy idol, but as a writer, actor, and inventive revolutionary, Garry Shandling, will appear at Just For Laughs’ 4th annual Comedy Conference to receive one of its most prestigious prizes: the Just For Laughs Lifetime Achievement Award. Beginning his 30+ years in show business as a TV series writer, in 1981, Shandling made his first appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Hecreated his first television series, the unconventional and critically acclaimed It’s Garry Shandling’s Show in 1986, which was nominated for several Emmys. Then, in 1992, Shandling created The Larry Sanders Show for HBO which ran until 1998 and received a record breaking 78 Emmy nominations. In 2006, Shandling lent his voice to DreamWorks’ animated feature film Over the Hedge, which grossed $317 million worldwide, and most recently, he appeared in the highly successful Iron Man 2.
The Gary Shandling honor joins thepreviously announced “Comedy Person of the Year” Award to Louis C.K., the “Comedy Writer of the Year” Award to Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, the “Comedy Director of the Year” to Paul Feig, and the “Breakout Comedy Star of the Year” to Ken Jeong. The awards will be handed out at the Just For Laughs Awards luncheon, presented by Fonds de solidarité FTQ,on Friday, July 29 at the Hyatt Regency Montreal.
