LES HIRONDELLES

Just For Laughs Festival is jumping onboard other major festivals’ initiative by participating in Les Hirondelles, a project aimed at deploying on-site teams specially trained in answering the needs of women and vulnerable people.

During the Festival, teams identified with a pink armband featuring an Hirondelles logo will travel the outdoor site and provide, if needed, assistance to women, elderly people, families, and members of LGBTQ+.

Through Les Hirondelles, Just For Laughs Festival wishes to offer a most enjoyable and secure experience to all festival-goers. By adopting the pink brand and name that already exist, Just For Laughs seeks to ensure the continuity in services provided and unify visual cues for any individual in a vulnerable situation.

Just For Laughs Festival is proud to partner with Les Hirondelles and to act as a proactive leader when it comes to respect for diversity. This initiative directly addresses the recommendations of a report prepared by the Conseil des Montréalaises: Montréal, une ville festive pour toutes. Avis sur la sécurité des femmes et des jeunes femmes cis et trans lors des événements extérieurs de Montréal.

In addition to Les Hirondelles, Just For Laughs Festival deploys a series of measures in order to ensure festival-goers’ safety and peace of mind:

  • Nearly a thousand employees from different departments and more than a thousand volunteers work on site and are able to give assistance to any vulnerable person;
  • Festival teams are trained to help and to take swift action in any situation;
  • Corridors are installed and clearly identified to allow any person in need to reach a safe place quickly;
  • Several safe and quiet places are accessible to offer a refuge in case of need;
  • The Festival cooperates actively with the city of Montréal in order to prevent risks and ensure safety for all.

Green is Victor's favourite color!

In order to reduce its environmental footprint, the Just for Laughs Festival has totally eliminated the use of plastic disposable glasses in its food kiosks, becoming the first major Festival daring to take such green turn.

All drinks will be served in a $2 reusable cup that you can find in every food kiosks on the site. Their strange appearance will certainly make you want to keep them!

On the Festival Site, you’ll find recycling facilities enabling us to recycle tons of paper, plastic and metal every year.

Just for Laughs is proud to be associated with the solidarity cooperative Les Valoristes in order to sort and recycle returnable containers. Just for Laughs is the first Montreal major event to apply such a societal responsibility strategy to merge actions in poverty alleviation and environment protection.
